And 3rd, put the lid on the pan so that it boils quicker :)

It's amazing how many people still waste gas by using the wrong size pan on the wrong burner.

Great post! I think the media (and regular peeps like you and I) need to push the candidates to address more Green issues during their campaigning. Clearly, I'm taking a page out of Al Gore's book here, but it's true: the future of our planet is no distant second to the economy and war in Iraq - they're all topline issues.

OK, off soapbox now...

Hey Allen!

Yeah - the composter is on the list for sure. I'm angling for a self-rotating composter for Christmas this year, we'll see. I guess I was just disappointed to find out the cold hard facts behind biodegradable items. BUT, once we a composter in place, we'll be able to start throwing some of those items in with our compostables. Well, except for the doggy-doo-doo bags!!!

So why not compost the leaves? Leaf compost is awesome mulch: will save water, add nutrients to your soil, protect against the cold winter. You guys have room, maybe you could build a box out of 4x4s and chicken wire. Then you don't need the bags, even. Just pile em in a big trashcan, shove the weed wacker in there for a few secs and voila: your leaves are now helping make your yard nicer.

I LOVE Gaiam! You don't know how many times I've tried to start using bags like that to shop for groceries though. I ALWAYS forget to take them in and no matter what I do I just can't remember. Besides, we repurpose the plastic ones for trash bags in the office and bathroom (and for dog poo)... but maybe that's just an excuse. ;-)

I am a big proponent of the reusable shopping bag when at the store. I bought a few of these babies about one year ago. In the cool stores, I get compliments for my chic bags. In the not-cool stores, I get a look from the cashier like, "I really am more comfortable using one plastic bag for every two items you purchase." I often tell them to "stuff it" - well up to 25 lbs. anyway. I love these so much that I thought I would share on Erin's web site! Here is where they are and where you can get them: http://www.reusablebags.com/store/acme-bags-workhorse-style-1500-p-1.html
Happy shopping!
